Hood is 6.75" thick (w/o crossbars) when closed which provides a slimmer profile and a lighter tent. It does not have any extra storage inside the tent so your ladder and sleeping bags will have to be stored inside the vehicle. Both models allow for awnings, showers, and gear to be mounted to the T slot.
